“How Might I/We?” Statements (research problem/question)

Be precise - say exactly what problems your research will solve!

Here's how

Start defining your research problem and question based on your prior knowledge, needs analysis and initial information gathering. Taking time to define the research problem and question means your project will have a clear DIRection.

Instead of thinking only about what you want to learn (knowledge gaps), think also about problems your research might solve. Combine your point of view and those collected in your needs analysis to formulate compelling questions like: How might I better understand student lunchtime consumption in order to propose a food-waste reduction programme?
